Neuner Legacy Continues at Gordon College
The late Cy Neuner was a great supporter of Gordon College and his legacy will continue through the Cy Neuner Faculty/Staff Enrichment Fund.
Neuner, longtime manager of Aldora Mills, was a trustee during the Gordon Military years. He continued to serve as a trustee as the school transitioned to a University System of Georgia institution and until his death in 2007. He, as well as all three of his children, attended Gordon and his youngest son, Don, is the current alumni association president. His father-in-law was the first president of the A&M School, once located on the Gordon property.
Cy Neuner faithfully contributed to Gordon College’s annual fund and made arrangements to give to Gordon through his estate. When making Gordon aware of the gift he said “so when my days end, there’s something set aside for Gordon to put wherever it’s needed.” The Cy Neuner Faculty/Staff Enrichment Fund was established in 2007 and contributions to the fund have been made by community members, faculty, and staff allowing it to reach its targeted endowment level this summer.
The funds are important to faculty/staff development and can be used to cover the expense of training and attending professional events. “The whole family is proud to know that the fund can be put to good use,” said Don Neuner. “It would not be possible without the generosity of many who also want Gordon to grow and prosper. We just wish our father could have lived a little longer so he could see his dream for Gordon becoming a four-year college come true. He spoke many times about what that would also mean to the city of Barnesville.”
“Cy Neuner’s long-time support of Gordon is greatly appreciated by the campus community,” said Rhonda Toon, vice president of advancement. “He was always supportive, always positive. Not only did he give of his time and expertise, he was a constant cheerleader for the College. He had more than a seven-decade relationship with Gordon during his lifetime, and through this fund his work for Gordon will continue far into the future.”
