OFSAA update . . . playoff schedules released
The Sir John A. Macdonald Highlanders and Resurrection Phoenix have reached the semifinals at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations field hockey championship in Stouffville.
The Highlanders advanced with a 2-0 win over East Elgin in a quarter-final match at Bill Crothers Secondary School as Nicole Paola and Brianne Hofstede scored for the top-ranked team in the 16-team tournament. Kelly Burns recorded the shutout.
The Phoenix, who defeated the Highlanders to win gold at last year’s event, crushed St. John’s-Kilmarnock 5-0 in another quarter-final game as Shannon Eby, Carly Payerl, Megan Silveria, Katherine MacMillan and Danielle Buttinger did the scoring. Kellee Snider got the shutout for the Phoenix, the tournament’s second-ranked team.
SJAM will face No. 6 Pickering in one semifinal game at 9:30 a.m. while Rez will take on No. 3 Oakville Trafalgar in the other.
The bronze-medal game will be played at noon with the gold-medal game to start at 12:30 p.m.
No word on what happened at the CWOSSA junior boys soccer championship in Fergus.
