Goal Setting Tip: Tell Your Friends!

Our fourth installment in our goal setting series is all about forming partnerships and the importance of sharing your goals with friends or family. Previously, we’ve given you resources and advice on setting timely goals as well as tips on how to write down your goals.
Why is it important to form a partnership when setting goals? Should you share your goals with friends or family, or work on them solo? These are definitely some important things to consider once you’ve begun working on achieving your goals. Here are a few reasons why working with others will actually help you along the way!
1. Accountability: sharing your goals with a trusted friend or family member will keep you accountable. Your friends will remind you and ask you about your goals and the progress you’ve made.2. Connection: by sharing your goals with others, you will be able to connect with them and find common interests. Who knows, maybe your friend is working towards a similar goal! When you form a connection based on accomplishing a goal, you will be able to share your struggles, get tips and advice, and realize that you’re not alone in your journey!
3. Motivation: when you tell others, you’re giving a vocal commitment and you’ll be more likely to stick to it knowing that others are aware of what you’re working towards.
4. Inspiration: sharing your goals can be a great source of inspiration. Your friends or family members can give you a new perspective, helping you to notice things you may have not noticed before.
Before you tell others, be sure that they are someone that you trust and feel comfortable seeking advice or taking constructive critiques from. When you tell them your goals, talk through each of them with your friend or family member and explain why and how you’re going to accomplish them. Also, it is very important to be clear why you’re telling them and lay out how you’d like them to help you along the way.
Sharing your goals and forming partnerships with others can be extremely helpful and serve as a great way to stay motivated and on track!
We’ll be back with more tools, resources and advice in the coming weeks so be sure to check in!
