Are You In This for the Long Term?

I’ve been thinking a lot about what the winners in network marketing do versus the people who have some success but next thing you know they’ve switched to another company or are promoting the latest hi-tech gizmo.

My question for you today is; Are you in this for the long term? Or are you just spinning your wheels and hopping around from opportunity to opportunity with no system and no long term plan?

You can earn some good quick money from selling the latest hi-tech stuff. Goodness me there is so much to choose from you could do affiliate marketing all day long and if you get good at it you can make some nice money. But it’s usually not residual.

So the reason I’m asking you whether you’re in this for the long term is because I know how easy it is to be distracted from building your Network Marketing business.

We all want to make money TODAY and that’s great. There’s nothing wrong (in my opinion) with promoting some affiliate programs that compliment what you’re doing online.

Some simple examples of these would be:

An auto-responder service

A blog theme service

A domain name service

Personal development ’stuff’

Internet Marketing Training

The danger (and I’ve seen this a lot since I really mastered working online) is that people can become so absorbed and fascinated with learning how to blog and make capture pages that they conveniently FORGET to prospect for their MLM business!

Oh that’s so ‘old school,’ they say, and wrinkle up their nose.

I’ve been saying this all along but people can have selective hearing. Listen to me today if you haven’t done before.

A blog can be fabulous. A capture page can be fabulous. Bringing people to your site and having them sign up to receive your emails is completely fabulous. I’d be lying if I didn’t say it was.

BUT and this is a big BUT. If you wait for people to come to you to ask you about your network marketing business and you are only having a couple of hits to your site per day (or are still sitting in a darkened room trying to figure out how to connect Twitter with Facebook) you may have a LOOOOOONG wait before you get a team going in your business.

If you want to use online tools to be more efficient that’s fine but you must ALSO do the fundamentals. You must work the list of people you know and you must pick up the phone to connect with people you are meeting online and offline.

If you fail to do this you will spend lots of wasted hours, days or months clicking around online trying to figure out how to sponsor people you don’t know. Save yourself the hassle. Even if you become amazing at generating leads you still need to speak to people to find out who they are and what they want to achieve.

You don’t want to work with just ANYBODY do you?

The internet is a tool and you need to make connections and then CONNECT, preferably with your phone.

Your new people need to have a system and marketing plan to use so they can be in business the minute they sign up. If they need to sit and figure out how to create a blog before they can get going what do you think the chances are of them quitting before they even speak to their first prospect?

This can be one of the scariest things for a new person. Contacting the people they know. The thing is that if they don’t, they are not developing the basic skills they need to learn how to build a network marketing business.

You can’t jump to advanced BEFORE you do the basics. That goes for everything so how are you doing on the basics?

Next post we’ll talk about what the basics are.
